Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism

The functional review of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism is undertaken by the National School of Government International and it is part of the wider cooperation between the Cyprus and British Government. The NSGI secures expertise from various Departments of the United Kingdom’s public administration, depending on the areas which are under examination. The MECIT covers a vast range of responsibilities and functions, in areas that have significant importance to the economy and to the overall development of Cyprus. Moreover, there are interlinks with issues that have been included in the growth agenda, of the Cyprus Government, such as tourism and investments. It is noted that the NSGI has also conducted the functional review of the Department of Registrar of Companies and Official Receiver, which is part of MECIT.

The first contact of the experts with the said Ministry was initiated during an inception visit which took place between 20-24 April 2015. The aim of the scoping mission was for the experts to familiarize themselves with the particularities of the said Ministry and its state owned entities, as well as with horizontal reform initiatives of the Government, ie. the human resource management issues and the public financial management.

Following the inception visit, the next mission is scheduled for mid July where the experts will collect the necessary information and data as well as have meetings with the central administration and with the Ministry’s affiliated organizations.

The review is expected to be submitted by the end of December 2015, for the completion of which four visits will take place.
