This review is conducted by experts of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the National School of Government International of the United Kingdom Government, with the aim to improve the Ministry so that it will operate in a more efficient and effective manner. The review will cover the functioning of the Central Administration and of the diplomatic missions of Cyprus abroad, and it will include policy options on the restructuring of the Ministry.
Within the scope of this review, the experts have visited Cyprus twice so far, in September and November. During their visits they have collected various information and material, while at the same time they held several meetings with government officials and diplomats of the Ministry, and also with other bodies who are working closely with the said Ministry. Furthermore, the team of experts visited diplomatic missions of Cyprus abroad, specifically the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU, in Brussels, and the High Commission of Cyprus in London, in order to have a comprehensive view of the Ministry.
The team of experts submitted their interim report including policy options, in mid February. Following this, their third visit took place in March and the main purpose of their visit was to discuss the content of the said report. During the visit specially designed workshops were conducted, as well as general discussions on the various issues.
The final report was submitted to the Cyprus Government in June 2015. The official presentation of the Report took place on the 13th July 2015.
Following this, and based on the recommendations of the report, an Action Plan will be prepared, and approved by the Council of Ministers, which will include the various steps and timeframes for the implementation of the reform process within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
